Newsgroups
Remember those geeky high school clubs for all sorts of interests? Guess what? Geeky has grown up and gone hip. They're called news groups, and they're one way the Internet has profoundly changed how the world communicates.
Millions rely on newsgroups to stay abreast of the latest news in almost any area of interest and to carry on discussions with people around the globe. The 30,000 NewsGuy news groups available through Coastal Communications are an amazing resource.
Join talks about literature, investing, raising kids, sailing, history, cars, cooking, writing. Teachers share classroom ideas, computer experts discuss new software, sports fans debate game calls. There's a group for every interest.
News groups can be a productive tool, but they can also be misused. They aren't moderated (no teacher in the room!) so anyone can post anything they want. Sometimes businesses post messages to hundreds of newsgroups. Pornography can also appear.
To access the newsgroups, go to www.coastalnow.net and click on Newsguy.com under Web Mail.
